Music Provides Insight to the ââ¬Å"Outsidersâ⬠Essays Music Provides Insight to the ââ¬Å"Outsidersâ⬠Essay Music Provides Insight to the ââ¬Å"Outsidersâ⬠Essay Essay Topic: The Outsiders ââ¬Å"Jane Saysâ⬠is a moving depiction of a prostitute addicted to heroine written and performed by the band Janeââ¬â¢s Addiction.à The band was named after this woman, who was a person the lead singer Perry Farrell knew well.à He was moved enough by her situation that he did this in her honor. The song is one of the more mainstream Janeââ¬â¢s Addiction tracks and is played on several radio stations capturing a large American audience. Janeââ¬â¢s only real love is the drug that consumes her.à The lyrics state that she has never been in love and only knows when a man wants her for sex.à Her life is a vicious cycle that only other ââ¬Å"outsidersâ⬠understand.à She prostitutes for drugs, uses the drugs and goes back out seeking money.à She keeps promising herself to no avail that she will ââ¬Å"kick tomorrowâ⬠, as in stop using heroine.à She, also, believes that she will save her money and go to Spain. The lyrics suggest that she is sad and angry, but does not know how to get out of this bad situation. This song can be analyzed in the context that all outsiders experience these issues in different forms.à One begins dangerous behavior and alienates themselves from mainstream society.à They then begin a roller-coaster of what society labels deviant and their cycle continues and spins out of control. I believe that it is positive that this song is played on many American radio stations, so that those, who do not understand the plight of these ââ¬Å"outsidersâ⬠can be somewhat enlightened.à The important token to be taken from this lyrical work is that even those in the most destitute situations still have dreams and feelings. In conclusion what ââ¬Å"Jane Saysâ⬠is what all outsiders say in different ways.à We should not give up on people in these situations, just because mainstream society has shunned them.à When people still have dreams of a better life, they may change.à The problem is they will never be able to fully integrate back into the mainstream with so much judgment and misunderstanding on people ignorant to these lifestyles.à This only pushes them back in the trenches.
